With a single crash, the robot has lost all of his progress through the galaxy, and with no hope to return to his home planet, he's on a new mission to light the beacons spaced throughout the planet and send a distress signal home. The contents of his ship are incredibly valuable, so he can expect if he takes too long to find and activate the beacons that the lasting peace of the planet will fail and the inhabitants will suddenly arise to see if they can salvage his ship for themselves.
